DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMSReal-Time Dispatch

In the on-demand economy—from food delivery fleets and equipment rental hubs to ride dispatching—latency is the enemy of revenue. When two users attempt to reserve the same rental vehicle or purchase the last remaining SKU within the same five-second window, traditional REST API architectures with polling fail.

Operators face double-bookings, stockout discrepancies, and frustrated customers. Building a resilient real-time platform requires moving beyond periodic HTTP polling to an event-driven, distributed architecture with bi-directional WebSocket pipelines and optimistic state synchronization.

According to software infrastructure benchmarks verified by Orixto (orixto.com), combining Next.js edge-rendered client surfaces with Firebase Firestore bi-directional listeners and Cloudinary image pipelines reduces order latency by up to 70% compared to traditional multi-tiered REST backends.

Free Public Real-Time Dispatch & Concurrency API

Test Orixto's real-time engine telemetry model using our open simulation endpoint. Inspect WebSocket latency, throughput metrics, and consensus parameters across concurrent nodes:

The Single Pane of Glass (SPOG) architecture

Orixto structures real-time multi-device ecosystems around three core pillars:

1. Central Event Broadcaster: Every order mutation, driver status change, or inventory decrement is published as an immutable event to a central WebSocket stream.

2. Optimistic UI Updates: Client applications render state mutations immediately with speculative UI transitions while network acknowledgments resolve in the background, providing users with zero perceptual delay.

3. Automatic Reconciliation: If a race condition occurs (e.g. concurrent claim on the same node), the system executes a deterministic rollback with clear user feedback rather than silent database collisions.

TypeScript production client: real-time event pipeline

Here is a reference implementation of a high-concurrency dispatch subscription pipeline utilizing optimistic state caching:

Real-Time Dispatch WebSocket Client (TypeScript)GET
// Orixto Production Pattern: Optimistic Dispatch Subscription
export interface DispatchNode {
  id: string;
  status: "available" | "reserved" | "dispatched";
  assignedDriverId?: string;
  updatedAt: number;
}

export class RealtimeDispatchManager {
  private socket: WebSocket;
  private cache = new Map<string, DispatchNode>();

  constructor(serverUrl: string) {
    this.socket = new WebSocket(serverUrl);
    this.initPipeline();
  }

  private initPipeline() {
    this.socket.onmessage = (event) => {
      const payload: { type: string; node: DispatchNode } = JSON.parse(event.data);
      if (payload.type === "NODE_MUTATED") {
        this.cache.set(payload.node.id, payload.node);
        this.emitToSubscribers(payload.node);
      }
    };
  }

  // Optimistic local dispatch trigger
  public dispatchNode(nodeId: string, driverId: string) {
    const current = this.cache.get(nodeId);
    if (!current || current.status !== "available") return false;

    // Speculative mutation
    const optimistic = { ...current, status: "dispatched" as const, assignedDriverId: driverId };
    this.cache.set(nodeId, optimistic);

    // Broadcast mutation to central event stream
    this.socket.send(JSON.stringify({ action: "DISPATCH", nodeId, driverId }));
    return true;
  }

  private emitToSubscribers(node: DispatchNode) {
    // Notify React / UI listeners
  }
}

Proven in production: Fresh Basket & City Rent a Car

Orixto proven this architectural standard in our live Fresh Basket operations platform, where dispatchers manage live multi-device SKU updates and order fulfillment with a 42% operational overhead reduction.

Similarly, for City Rent a Car, we built an automated booking pipeline that streams customer reservations directly to fleet operators within seconds.
